My Memoirby Mary Gabston-Howell
Here it was. The day I had always looked forward to. And I was afraid. I mean, it was something that I had looked forward to for my whole first 5 years, and now I was afraid! I put my backpack on. I was ready for it. It was the first day of school. Me and daddy walked out the front door. We went past Guadalajara, while I was wandering what the other kids would be like. My jacket was a little scratchy, but it felt warmer all the time. It was loose. My jacket was a real school jacket. It was a dark blue with twwo pockets. It felt so warm and comforting that wanted to scoot down in it and fall asleep. But, sadly, I couldn't do that. What!? I was alread there? There was no one outside. We were late! Not too late, but late! We walked through the door of Room 2. My father introduced me. "Here is Anya." My teacher said, "We will call her Mary." I went to sit on the carpet where my teacher gestured. Next to me sat a nice girl named Carol. I asked her, "Do you want to be my friend?" She said, "Sure!" The first one who caused trouble was a little boy named Malik. He was almost bald, while Carol had long, flowing red hair. Carol had glasses too, and a nice voice. Malik had to move his pin, while me and Carol's pins stay easily. Recess was great fun and my teacher, Mrs. Reeves was nice, too. At the ed of the day, we lined up, with me and Carol together. We were inseparable. We had become best friends! That's why my first day of school was the best day of my life! I had made my first best friend! I loved my teacher, and most of my classmates were okay. All in all, it was a great day. I loved Kindergarten! The end |
